International Student in SICE is Writing to Fight against COVID-19 regardless of nationality

“Join hands, strengthen our confidence and fight against COVID-19 together!”

Novel coronavirus pneumonia is at its critical stage. Willy (Chinese Name: Sun Weide), a Namibian international student in NTVU, sent a letter of thanks to the university and launched an appeal to all the international students.

Willy, is a young person who came to NTVU in the spring of 2018 to study Internet of Things. He liked to create articles and published them on WeChat public after class. After the outbreak of the epidemic, he was eager to do something to fight against COVID-19 in the face of the increasing number of cases and the shortage of epidemic prevention materials. Therefore, he picked up the paper and pen, and created an open thank-you letter, which was published on the Wechat public platform “Phronesismedia”, which focuses on the exchange of students studying in China, and delivered it to the leaders of SICE of Nantong Vocational University and published it on campus.

“It’s a new virus, it’s strange to everyone. I would like to use this letter to tell others what I think. I hope we can abide by the rules and regulations of the university, relieve our tension and anxiety, and don’t be afraid of COVID-19.” Willy told the Modern Express that there are more than 40 international students in the school. He hopes to use this letter to build a bridge for mutual understanding between NTVU and the international students, so that the international students can join hands to fight against COVID-19 together.

“It is the responsibility of every student to abide by the rules and regulations of the school. All international students should abide by the regulations of the university and the arrangement of the head teacher. As the caregivers, we have the responsibility and obligation to conscientiously perform the registration procedures for entering and leaving the dormitory, measure the body temperature and keep the environment clean.”

Willy put forward such suggestions in his letter, and called on everyone to treat the current epidemic situation scientifically and dialectically. “I believe that with the efforts of the Chinese government, we will win the battle of epidemic prevention with firm confidence, concerted efforts, scientific and targeted measures. I hope all people will make more and more adequate preparations for fighting and defeating this epidemic. Come on, Wuhan! Come on, China! We support you!”

The reporter of Modern Express learned that there are 41 international students like Willy in NTVU. They came to NTVU to study Construction Engineering, Internet of Things, Environmental Engineering Technology, Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation. At present, NTVU has become the largest Chinese University to receive Namibian students. Novel coronavirus pneumonia is a very popular topic in life now. Willy is very concerned about current affairs. He usually understands the latest progress of epidemic prevention in China through television and Internet. He also wrote 6 articles on the topic of COVID-19, current hot topics and his own academic subjects.

“Participate in online courses, help teachers to measure the temperature of students, disinfect the dormitory, cook with the food purchased by the school, and connect with the head teacher for classes.” Since the outbreak of the epidemic, Willy has lived a very full life every day. “At present, the school has turned to closed management, from offline classes to online teaching. I have been taking online classes for more than two months.” Willy said that Namibia is very far away from Nantong, with a round-trip ticket of nearly 6000 yuan and a one-way ticket of nearly 20 hours, which made him not choose to go home during the Spring Festival. “I'm still homesick now. I send an email home every week to report my safety.”

After the outbreak of the epidemic, Willy and other international students actively participated in the prevention and control of the epidemic. They measure each other’s temperature twice a day and disinfect their dormitories and public areas. “During the epidemic period, we formulated special regulations on the management of international students, made detailed provisions on temperature measurement, dormitory disinfection, public area cleaning, and implemented the principle of points deduction to urge foreign students to do a good job in epidemic prevention and control.” Chen Xiaoqin, a teacher of Overseas Exchange Service Center of Nantong Vocational University said.
